Conditions Do Not Apply

One thing in this world that is misunderstood by many is love. It is thrown around loosely and barely understood by the person using it or hearing it. I say that because nowadays marriages last a few days and people profess love to the person they are dating or their friends, but when hard times come they seem to forget you. It isn’t that the person lied when they said they loved you, they just didn’t know what love actually meant. Many times we are in lust, infatuation or we simply enjoy the moment. To love someone is not a feeling, it is a choice. Whether they are right or wrong, mean or nice, giving or selfish, it will not change.

One thing I love about God is that love is not one of His characteristics, love is who He is. The bible did not say God can love, He may love or loves when He is ready. The bible says that God is love (1 John 4:8). So whether we are Christians or atheists, God loves us. Whether we are “straight” or homosexuals/lesbians, God loves us. Whether we are obedient or rebellious, God loves us. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not justifying my sin or yours. God will love you and hate your lifestyle. When our parents tell us to clean up and we don’t, they will be highly upset. However, we are still their child. That’s because what we do does not change God. God’s love is not based on what we do or do not do. The bible says we must live holy lives because He is holy, or else we will not see God (Hebrews 12:14 & 1 Peter 1:15-16). The bible also states the people who are led by God’s spirit are His children (Romans 8:14). We just have to know that we are not our mistakes, we are who God says we are.

Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. (Jeremiah 1:5)

God spoke to Jeremiah the prophet and told him that before he was born, God had a purpose for him. We all must understand that. You are not a mistake! God makes no mistakes. Some people came into this world through wedlock, rape or even by “surprise” to the parents, but you were no accident to God. God told Jeremiah before he even made a mistake or got the chance to sin, “I sanctified thee”. You must understand, God knew when you would stumble. God knew when He would tell you to do something and you did the opposite. People may have cut you off or given up on you, but God still calls you His. Moses felt he was not good enough to be a leader because of his speech problems, but God used him (Exodus 4:10-12). God knew David would commit adultery and cause her husband to be killed, but God still caused him to be anointed as king and still calls him a man after His heart (Acts 13:22). Paul was killing God’s people, but God still used him after (1 Corinthians 15:9-10).

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. (Romans 8:1)

Never should you get to the place where you think you can do, say, or live however you want and feel God’s grace will cover it. You can’t abuse God’s grace, He will leave you over to a reprobate mind (Romans 1:21-32). However, do not get to the place where you condemn yourself. God loves you and nothing you do will make Him love you more or less. Knowing this should make us want to draw closer to Him in prayer, fasting, and studying His word. Everyday you wake up, tell yourself God loves me. Even when you don’t feel like it, remind yourself. Joseph could have slept with Potiphar’s wife but he said “how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God” (Genesis 39:9). I strongly believe we only sin when we feel like something else can be a substitute for the love of God. Seeking a temporary satisfaction to please our flesh. Let us seek to know more of God’s love, because when we love God, it is easier to love people.

The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee. (Jeremiah 31:3)
