Intimacy

In the hearts of all mankind, there is a gap in our lives that God leaves empty. That is a void that can only be replaced by Him. Unfortunately, so many of us seek to fill it with things of this world: relationships, money, power, sex, etc. Even modern day christians, we have Jesus in our lives, but we don’t always have a deep, intimate connection with Him. Yes we may encounter Him, but we don’t give Him the chance to dwell in us. Yes, many of us are filled with the Holy Spirit, but not all of us are led by the Holy Spirit.

What if I told you that God is tired of us cheating on Him? We love Him oh so dearly on Sundays or in church services, but we cheat on Him the rest of the week. Cheating on Him in sin. Choosing to please our flesh and indulging in things that God doesn’t approve of, instead of finding ways to please God more. How many times has God wanted us to put down the cell phones, turn off the televisions, get out of meaningless relationships, or just turn from sins we cling so closely to, but we decided to ignore His voice. We all have been in these situations, and God is really trying to get our attention. Sometimes God will allow tragedy or people to abandon us, so we can turn back to Him.

Imagine if we read more bible verses than text messages, we would know so much about Jesus. Imagine if we got so excited about Jesus as we do at sports events, pep rallies, or over famous musicians. The president election caused so much hype on social networks, what if we shared Jesus that very same way? Just think about it, what if we spent hours in prayer as we do hours on the phone or gossiping. The same amount of time we take to walk the malls, if we invested that time to just evangelize to at least 10 people, so much more people would be saved. We stand outside stores all night for phones, video games, or the best deals. Yet, it is so hard for us to pray all night, or at least for an hour.

If we continue to keep ignoring God’s call for intimacy, eventually we won’t hear Him calling anymore. God will always love us unconditionally, but He cannot force us to love Him. When we allow our eyes to be blinded with sin or carnal things, we lose sight of God. When we begin to listen to everyone but God: people, the media, and what society says, we won’t have ears keen enough to hear the voice of God. I can write this today because I know what it is to ignore God, we all have if we can be honest with ourselves. It is time to stop worshiping creation and start worshiping the Creator!

Just to clarify, being a Christian doesn’t mean you will never do anything outside of church. Of course you’ll like sports, shop, etc., but we should never allow these things to consume God’s time! Of course you’ll watch television, but you’ll know to be careful of what you allow your eyes to look and meditate on.

Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the Lord. (Lamentations 3:40)

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I give you thanks and praise because You are a great God. I ask you for forgiveness for the selfish lifestyle I have been living and I ask you for grace. Grace that is sufficient to see my through my tough situations. Please give me the strength to turn from sin and to never look back. I want to be more than an ordinary servant. Help me to be willing and obedient, so that I can please You. Continue to guide me, each and everyday, Lord. In Jesus name I pray, amen.

Podcast Episode 37. Should Christians Masturbate?

We have a bit of a…. “touchy” subject today! Pun intended. There’s no bible verse that’s explicitly anti-masturbation. However, let’s see what the word may imply by this. Ask yourself these questions
