Social Networks, idols?

Little children, keep yourself from idols. Amen (1 John 5:21)

The 21st century has become an “technology era”. My generation is surely more advanced than my parents generation. When my parents grew up, only a few “rich” kids would have cell phones. Now, people that are even of low income will have an iPhone. When Jesus walked this Earth, he had to walk and ride boats to preach the Gospel to different cities. Now, we don’t have to walk anywhere. We can fly or drive to different places. We can send bible verses via email or text messages; If we want, we can even go on YouTube and find sermons from just about anyone. That is why I believe we have a bigger responsibility and more intense judgement coming.

I don’t question why we as Christians become so lazy or complacent anymore. We have become to comfortable. Many souls are in different countries, nations and even around our neighborhoods dying without hearing the Gospel. Meanwhile, we are in church arguing because “he/she doesn’t like me” and competing over who’s outfit was the best.

Woe to them that are at ease in Zion….(Amos 6:1)

God has forewarned us of becoming lukewarm (Revelation 3:15-16). It is time to evaluate our lives to see if we are becoming lukewarm, losing our passion and zeal for God.

I have noticed that many are starting to find prayer and reading the word of God “boring”. There has never been a boring moment with God, that alone shows that your mind is being driven in the wrong direction. A carnal mind cannot please God. More and more people are replacing God with social networks. Spending hours upon hours, tweeting, on instagram, facebook and texting. There is no pleasure greater than being in the presence of the Almighty God.

Is social networking a sin? In my opinion, it is not. However, if you spend more time on it than with God, it is an idol.

I am sure that if Jesus had an iPhone, he would send a text like “hey bro, have faith. Be healed”!  Then, POW! Instant healing! However, we are on our phones wasting time. Drawing nearer to sin and the world rather than bringing souls to Christ. Not even to mention the pictures some people send and receive, but that is another subject. Just saying you need to repent!

Am I recommending that you have to talk about Jesus on social networks all day to prove you love him? No, of course not. Just do not have the mentality that people are just going to get saved on their own, Jesus wants you to go and witness to them.

Instagram will send many souls to Hell! Yes it’s just pictures, but God sees when you are lusting after certain men and women in your heart. Don’t let the devil trick you into being a statistic. When you are tempted to be idle on a social network, remember there’s always something else you can do. Study your bible, pray, visit a sick person, feed the homeless, evangelize, encourage a brother or sister.

Do not be that Christian that wants to just be mediocre and go to Heaven. We always talk about great men like the Apostle Paul, Noel Jones, T.D Jakes, Francis Chan or whoever else you know about. Let people talk about you, in a good way! You can be the next great man or woman of God.

This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. (Matthew 15:8)

Who are you closer to, God or social networks?

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, (Hebrews 12:1)

Stay focused. Stay in the will of God. Hope you can honestly go and examine yourself and not others. Share this with others.

God bless,

Tovares Grey

Podcast Episode 37. Should Christians Masturbate?

We have a bit of a…. “touchy” subject today! Pun intended. There’s no bible verse that’s explicitly anti-masturbation. However, let’s see what the word may imply by this. Ask yourself these questions
